Oscar 2011 Fave Hairstyles

Super cool to see some Drybar faves on the red carpet for last night’s Oscar Awards. Spied lots of loose curls (Cosmopolitan) and tousled waves (Mai Tai), and loved Gwyneth Paltrow and Penelope Cruz with sleek + straight styles (Manhattan). ScarJo mastered the Mai-Tai in a cool cropped version that is totally young and hip. Also obsessed with Michelle Williams’ chic + simple pixie cut. Favorite updo was Mila Kunis with soft waves pinned up for a pretty, romantic look— brides-to-be will be bookmarking this style for sure!

Looks likes my Oscar predictions for USA Today were right on ;)

“I think there’s a way to do the beachy look and make it look polished and make sure you look like your hair is done,” says Webb, noting the undone waves (and some flexible hairspray) can be a weather-proof fix. “I think it’s more of a reason to go with a messier look, so it’s not so perfect looking.”

For stars who choose dresses with a dramatic neckline or back, it’s all about the “looser, not-so-perfect” bun, she says (think Jennifer Lopez or Sarah Jessica Parker at last year’s Oscars). “I like a really classic low bun right at the nape of the neck with some light pieces coming down, more of a romantic updo,” she says.

NYFW Fall/Winter 2011 Faves

New York Fashion Week sets trends for more than just clothing and accessories. The hair + makeup are equally important (and just happen to be what Drybar loves most about this semi-annual fashion event!!!) There were LOTS of “Mai-Tais” this season, some beachy styles (see Alexander Wang), braids in various forms + sizes, and bangs! View the entire collections at Style.com

Meet Buttercup, the Drybar Mascot

Hi there, for those of you who don’t know me, I’m Buttercup. But if you’ve been to a Drybar, you know exactly who I am. How could you not?! Our architect, Josh, designed + handmade fancy, custom light fixtures in my likeness for the Drybar shops because, well… obviously, I am the star of this show! I make your hair look amazing with the help of some highly capable hand holding. I’m also the pretty yellow thing emblazoned on just about everything Drybar related—bags, gift certificates, and of course the shop windows. I hear there are also some sweet little lapel pins of me (ask for one the next time you’re at one of the shops). I’m even trademarked to protect to my fabulousness. Anyway, enough about me, I simply wanted to say hello and properly introduce myself… I may just become your new BFF.

Meet Samson, our new mascot!  (Just kidding, Buttercup)

We’re On “The Mentor”!

When the folks at Bloomberg picked Drybar (over hundreds of others, thank you very much!) to be featured in a new show called “The Mentor” where “titan of industry” CEOs help small businesses grow, we were flattered and intrigued.

When we found out we were getting Jamba Juice CEO James White we got really excited.

It turned out to be the experience of a lifetime. I mean, how often does a new startup like us get the chance to work with a world-class CEO one-on-one?! We are so grateful to James and Bloomberg for the opportunity and all the awesome, insightful advice.

Check out the trailer for our episode below (the season finale) and be sure to tune in tonight for the real deal, 6PM Pacific, 9PM Eastern!

Opening Soiree for Weho
